Oculus, one year on

It has been just over a year since we began trading as Oculus and despite the recession things are still going well. We have continued to provide the building control services for interesting and bespoke projects including; the refurbishment of the library at the University of Sussex, the new Visitor Centre at Tyntesfield and a new Energy Skills Centre at Bridgwater College.

It has been a difficult time for the construction industry however we have remained positive and prudent and have avoided the mistake of submitting unrealistically low fee proposals which, generally speaking for the project, is simply a problem deferred. As always our fees allow us to fully resource our involvement in a project and provide high quality Approved Inspector building control.

Oculus provides additional consultancy services including; expert witness in selected fields of expertise, fire risk assessment and RICS surveying for historic buildings where we can call on the considerable experience of our senior associate John Mullen. Our 'Green Team' (Steve Burridge and David Warren) are actively providing EPCs and we will soon be in a position to offer BREEAM assessments for educational buildings. I am also pleased to report that our lunchtime CPD seminars have had a good take up with Oculus surveyors presenting on a broad cross section of Building Regulation related topics.

I hope that you find this newsletter useful and interesting, please feel free to send in your feedback.
