Situation
Luxury hotel chain with a project involving extensions and major alterations to historic hotel. We were appointed to provide the building control services. Under pressure for Final Certificate for the release of finances. A simple reading of the Building Regulations indicated that wall panelling had no British Standard certification of compliance. Treatment with an intumescent coating was estimated at c£40,000 and there was concern that it may adversely affect the quality of the original finish.

Needed a radical approach within a tight time frame.

Quantified benefit
Within 48 hours we flew in samples of the panelling from inside the EU, created a test rig and carried out a surface spread of flame test with independent witnesses on the Sunday morning and the Final Certificate was issued and the finances were released. Project handed over and opened on time with a saving of c£40,000 and without disruption.
