Surveying for historic buildings

Surveying a historic or listed building can present very specific challenges and Oculus has particular expertise in this area. Our RICS Chartered Building Surveyors are highly experienced in understanding historic building techniques and materials and can survey any type of property from vernacular houses to grand country mansions.

Oculus produce a comprehensive buildings survey report that will identify any significant structural defects, necessary repairs or alterations or even hazardous conditions that may need further investigation. We also give recommendations and advice on matters such as building regulations and town planning. The importance of this report cannot be over stated as it not only helps determine the cost of rectifying defects and repairs but also helps ascertain the true value of a property.

Defective Detail Surveys
Where additional analysis is required Oculus can help deliver a reliable "diagnosis and prognosis". This may involve invasive and non-invasive techniques, laboratory analysis and monitoring and the results will form part of a report that enables the owners to plan remedial action through repair, appropriate maintenance and or preventative conservation.

Statutory Non-compliance Surveys
Some properties have been altered or extended without statutory approval from the Local Authority. As building control Approved Inspectors Oculus is able to undertake a non-compliance survey and advise on the risk involved and regularisation procedures.
