Oculus prizes

As part of an ongoing commitment to education Peter Norris lectures on various courses for the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath. By way of encouragement and reward Oculus awards two prizes annually to the courses on which Peter lectures.


MSc Course - Conservation of Historic Buildings

Peter Norris has been lecturing on this course for over 10 years and has a particular interest and passion for historic buildings. From 2007 Oculus Building Consultancy has presented an annual prize of £200 to the highest performing student successfully completing the course.

2007 Recipient

The winner of the 2007 Oculus sponsored prize was James Hall.

James Hall works for London based Peregrine Bryant Architecture and Building Conservation.

2008 Recipient

The winner of the 2008 Oculus sponsored prize was James Russiello

James Russiello is presently working with Alistair Coey Architects in Belfast as a field recorder on the Second Northern Irish Architectural Survey for a comprehensive re-listing of buildings.

Architectural Degree Course

Peter Norris lectures to 4th Year undergraduates studying for a BSc in General Architectural Studies at the University of Bath. The aim is to ensure that graduates are well versed in the implications of the Building Regulations when they join the construction industry.

By way of encouragement and reward since 2008 Oculus has presented an annual prize of £200 to Second Year students for the ‘Detail Design' Unit of the Architectural Degree Course. The recipients of the prize are selected by Teaching Fellow Dyfed Griffiths of the University.

2008 Recipients

At the End of Year Show on 30 May 2008 at the University of Bath, Peter Norris, Managing Director of Oculus Building Consultancy presented the first prize of £150 to Nathan Ovens and the runner up prize of £50 to Marta Ferreira.

2009 Recipient

At the End of Year Show on 29 May 2009 at the University of Bath the Oculus Detail Design Award for the highest performing student was awarded to Phai C Vittayavarakorn. Teaching Fellow Dyfed Griffiths selected the prize winner, unfortunately Phai was not present to receive his award as he was on an
overseas placement.

'This is my way of putting something back into the industry by both encouraging and endorsing high achievement in this field' says Peter.
